Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking dish
  • Cooling rack
  • Spatula or dough scrapper
  • electric mixer optional

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 4 Cups All-purpose flour (bread flower works well too)
  • 1/4 Cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 Pkt Active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Whole milk, warmed
  • 1/2 Cup Unsalted butter, melted (plus more for greasing)
  • 2 Large eggs

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 Cup Brown sugar, packed
  • 1 Tbsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup Unsalted butter, softened

For Cream cheese frosting

  • 4 Oz Cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 Cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 Cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1-2 Tbsp Milk (to reach desired consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the warmed milk, melted butter, and eggs. Gradually add this mixture to the flour mixture, stirring to combine.

Knead the Dough:

  • Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

First Rise:

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

Roll the Dough:

  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x12 inches). Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top.

Shape the Rolls:

  • Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Second Rise:

  • Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.

Bake:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Make the Frosting:

  • While the rolls are baking, beat together the cream cheese and butter in a bowl until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing well. Add milk until the desired consistency is reached.

Frost and Serve:

  • Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading the cream cheese frosting on top. Serve warm and enjoy!
